Why Fully Automatic Case Sealers are the Superior Choice For Your

How Fully Automatic Case Sealers Increase Efficiency, Safety and Profit

Wayne Automation has a long history of providing packaging machines of all varieties. From our beginnings in 1976 to our current standing as a favorite packaging automation supplier, we serve industries ranging from craft brewers to footwear e-retailers.

You’ve likely considered the benefits of automation at almost every step, yet when it comes to final packaging, many manufacturers still leave this job to a team of human operators, either manually sealing boxes, or working in tandem with semi automatic machines, loading and unloading them from the tool cell.

At Wayne, we engineer our fully automatic case sealers to provide maximum value to our customers. Case sealers sit at the very end of your manufacturing process, sealing boxes and packages before they’re palletized for transport to their final destination. The benefits of integrating end-of-line automation are numerous, from safety and efficiency to cost and maintainability. Read on to learn how your packaging process can benefit.

Automatic vs. Semi-Automatic

Starting from square one, let us define the distinction between automatic and semi-automatic case sealers. Semi-automatic case sealers require a human operator to place the finished case into the machine, in some instances closing the case themselves, then inserting it into the case sealers for final closure.

In the Wayne product lineup, case sealers form the final component in a completely automated ecosystem of machines. Automatic magazine loaders feed case erectors, which can then hand off the finished cases to automated case packers. Once packed, they may be handed off to an automated flap closure and conditioner system, and then finally to one of our hands off case sealers. All handling is performed by our highly engineered machines

5 Great Reasons to Choose Automatic Case Sealers

The advantages of a fully automated case sealing system are numerous, providing benefits not simply to your business, but to your clients, and even the operators on your manufacturing and packaging lines. Here are the top 5 reasons to implement end-of-line automation in your process.

Safety

Semi-automatic machines, even those which perform seemingly innocuous processes, have the potential to cause bodily harm due to the necessarily involved interaction with workers. When high speed is required, the risk only grows.

Safety is more than a motto at Wayne, it’s a guiding principle behind every machine we produce. Every automated case sealer is equipped with Lexan® Safety Doors and Allen Bradley Anti-Intrusion Switches to ensure operator safety. Our machines are controlled from a color touchscreen on the exterior of the machine, requiring zero reason for an operator to place themselves in harm.

Versatility

No matter the needs of your process, packaging automation machines provide powerful solutions. Our automatic case sealers offer a wide array of options, from hot melt glue and tape to top and bottom sealing. Machines are also compatible for RSC, All Flaps Meet, Full Overlap Cases and more. This gives you the freedom to optimize your packaging and your process without having to worry about speed or efficiency limitations.

Efficiency

Consider a traditional semi-automatic packaging line. At each stage an operator must load and unload a box from a machine, then hand it off to another operator to repeat the same step. By its nature, this process introduces bottlenecks. This is especially true when considering human factors such as building in breaks, scheduling shift changes, and otherwise protecting operator quality of life.

Complete automation is the fastest road to an efficient process, especially when engaging in the same set of motions repeatedly. Fully automatic processes require none of the human considerations that cause bottlenecks, and are able to work around the clock as they seamlessly move products from one step in the process to another.

Reliability

The reliability and lifespan of your equipment is inherently increased by removing the human element. The longer you keep an operator working at a machine, the higher chance there is a mishap, and one which does not cause harm to the operator will be just as likely to damage your machinery. This leads to downtime for repairs, a process which cascades across your entire production line.

Automated systems are thus highly reliable, eliminating human error-related downtime. Additionally, regularly scheduled maintenance intervals are communicated to you through the touch screen interface, allowing for timely preventative service. It’s the combination of sturdy construction and smart implementation that makes Wayne systems so reliable.

Product Appearance

The way your product reaches the customer speaks volumes about your company. Even if the product is immaculate, the packaging is a front-facing display of the care and quality you put in. Human operators can only be so precise. As the day wears on, their work can become sloppy. Misaligned tape or improperly applied hot glue is not just a bad look, it opens the door to your cases opening mid-transit and causing a loss of product. Fully automated systems promise consistency and a clean look, given every customer the packaging experience they deserve.
